Developmental League

This is a once a week league, that allows kids new to hockey to learn skating, hockey skills and drills, concluding the end of the two month session with at least two games.

This division is for players that are between 4 and 9 years old, 2002-2007 birth years.  This is a beginner’s hockey program, emphasizing the new USA Hockey ADM skill development model, which utilizes cross ice games and coaching techniques.  Players will practice once per week over the season.  The emphasis is placed on skill development — skating, stick handling, passing and shooting.  Most 7 – 9 year olds will outgrow this program quickly and usually will move on to the Mite House League as long as space permits.

The Fall Session will run from Sunday, October 23 through Sunday, December 18 and will occur every Sunday at 5:00 PM at South Metro Sports Ice Rink. The winter session will run from Friday, December 30th through Sunday, February 26 and will normally occur Sunday at 5:00 PM at South Metro Sports Ice Rink. (Note: the first practice of the Winter Session is on Friday due to New Year’s Day)

Each session is $100. Participants may sign up for one or both sessions. Fees include ice time, skating and coaching instruction, team jersey and socks. Players must furnish their own skates and equipment (see below). The Developmental League is open to any player 10 years or younger. (If someone older than 10 is interested, please contact SHA for additional information.)

Equipment rental is available for a fully refundable $70 deposit. This includes a Helmet, Shoulder Pads, Elbow Pads, Pants, Shin Guards, Mouth Guard, equipment bag and Stick.
