About SHA

SHA (Springboro Hockey Association) is a USA Hockey affiliated youth hockey program based in Springboro, Ohio.

SHA has a House Program for skaters ages 4-12.  A skater’s age on December 31st of the current hockey season determines the appropriate team for the skater.  This program is a recreational league open to boys and girls.  Equal playing time is a goal considered more important than team success.  All practices take place at South Metro Sports complex located in Centerville Ohio.  There are team practices every week and a few additional practices may be added as needed.  The season runs from October through February.  All skaters get equal playing time regardless of ability.  Our House Teams play in the Midwest Youth Hockey League (MYHL).  This league stresses fun, recreation, development of skills, and good sportsmanship.  There are a total of 49 teams participating in the MYHL.  The breakdown of teams per age level is as follows:

MYHL Team Counts as of May 2011
Level Totals
Mite (8U) 18
Squirt (10U) 10
Peewee (12U) 9
Bantam (14U) 12
Total Teams in the MYHL 49

The MYHL finalizes their game schedules in late September/early October.  Most games are on the weekend with a potential Friday night game (however very rare).  I estimate the 8U will play 12 games, the 10U will play 16 games and the 12U will play 20 games.  SHA will follow-up with all the players’ parents when the game schedule is finalized.
