And our new name is…

April 28, 2012 in Uncategorizedby Frank

As we continue our transition to the Dayton Hockey Association, we’d like your help in determining the nickname and logo for our hockey teams. We plan to play the upcoming season with the chosen name. We’ve selected the top five we’ve come up with so far and are presenting them for your vote. After you’ve had a chance to review the choices, please vote for your favorite at this link. The possible names include the following:

We also know that you may have some ideas of your own for a new name, so we’re open to suggestions as well. If you are offering a suggestion that is different than those listed above, please keep in mind the following parameters:

1.) The new name cannot be a name that has been used by a previous or existing hockey organization in the area (i.e., Bluehawks, Bombers, Gems, Knights, Panthers, etc.).

2.) Our intent is to reflect Dayton’s aviation heritage and connection with Wright Patterson Air Force Base in some fashion. The community is very appreciative of that heritage and thankful for WPAFB and all it offers the community, so we want to recognize those aspects as we go forward with a unified hockey community.

After you’ve had a little while to look at the logo designs and consider the names, please CLICK HERE to register your vote for your favorite. Voting will remain open until 9:00 PM EDT on Monday, May 7.

Exciting Changes for Youth Hockey in Dayton

March 15, 2012 in Uncategorizedby Frank

Hello SHA Families,
The regular season is over and we are so proud of our teams and the growth that each player has shown this season.  We definitely feel that this season was a success and each player should be very proud of what they accomplished this year.
If you are already having rink withdrawals please remember that Spring Hockey is just around the corner.  These are fun games broken down by age and ability groups one night a week.  Space is limited so please sign up now before all the spots are filled.  Hockey equipment will be available if needed, just let us know so we can have it available for you on the first night.  Please go to http://www.shahockey.org/springhockey to sign your player up.
The upcoming 2012-2013 season is going to have some exciting changes to all the youth hockey programs in the Dayton area.  The three largest and oldest established hockey programs in the area have decided to work together in order to provide one joint program that will allow each player to continue developing their hockey skills and still have a ton of fun on the ice.  In doing so our players will have the opportunity for more ice time and quality coaching all in a program that will designed to allow you skater to grow and have the opportunity play at levels SHA has never offered before.  There is allot of work still to be done and many questions still to be answered but the executive boards of all three organizations are all working together towards this one goal.  Please download the Vision and FAQ documents that hopefully will explain how were going about this process. The SHA Board is planning to have a parent meeting sometime next month to sit down with you and hopefully share what we know and do our best to answer your questions.  Once a time and place has been designated we will get that out to you.
Lastly, summer is time for many different hockey camps.  Please go to South Metro to find information about Chris Lipsett, the assistant captain for the Dayton Gems and his summer training program along with the SIHA Hockey Camp. Both are quality programs and will be held at South Metro.  Registration forms for the Lipsett clinic are available here. If your looking for something new just ask any of us and we can share information on other training opportunities throughout the area.
We thank your for your support and appreciate your participation in our program.  If you should have any questions or comments, please feel free to contact us at any time.
Hope everyone has a great summer,
SHA Executive Board,
Keith Weaver, President
Frank Vrtar, Vice President
Holly DiFlora, Secretary
John Numbers, Treasurer
